A Transformational Experience!
Men who attended The Waymaker Men’s Summit were certainly not to be outdone by the women. This year’s Summit, held at South Los Angeles’ Beehive by SoLa Impact on June 5th-6th, was designed to empower men as well as teens. According to the event’s brainchild, Louis Carr, president of media sales at BET and the founder of the WayMaker brand, the mission of the annual event is to “pay it forward and pay it back”… He continued his opening statement saying, “We live in a time where the words ‘masculinity’ and being a man are very blurred and confusing terms, identity, and that’s the purpose of this summit.”
As in the past, this year’s event brought together influential men across all walks of life—health and wellness, business, sports, entertainment, and activism—with the sole intent of empowering, equipping, and inspiring Black men, no matter their position and status in life. With this variety and level of men—men-entrepreneurs, changemakers, and creatives sharing game-changing insights, there were many welcomed networking and healing opportunities.
Emotional healing advocate and author, Jason Wilson, blessed the crowd with much-needed encouragement: “We need to teach our boys how to release emotions before they overload. I recommend meditation and prayer first, because it allows moments of reflection, release, reset, and rest, which are the 4Ts I teach my students…” He added, “What our community needs for progress is inner healing.”
What he shared is certainly in synch with our belief system and work here at Core Contributors Group, Inc., where we provide mental health and counseling services for Black men who often overlook this pertinent aspect of their health.
The highly respected attorney, Ben Crump, shared powerful information. Others from the spiritual arena included Pastor Charles Jenkins, Pastor Jamal Bryant, and gospel recording artist Kirk Franklin. Entertainers like Busta Rhymes, Michael Jai White, Nick Cannon, and Derek Luke captured the attention of the crowd as well.
This was more than a casual gathering of men; it was more of a transformational and uplifting spiritual experience for those who attended. They were affected in a positive way—mind, soul, body!
